With an immigrant population of 78,000, or about one out of every five residents, Northeast Philadelphia is the most ethnically diverse section of the city. Russian, Ukrainian, and Indian immigrants are easily found in the Somerton and Bustleton neighborhoods; Brazilians have settled in Rhawnhurst; and Vietnamese and Chinese predominate in Crescentville and Castor. The cultural mix of the residents is also reflected in many of the Northeast's restaurants, markets, and delis.
The map below shows census tracts in which at least 200 residents, or about five percent of a typical tract’s population, were born in one of the countries listed in the legend below; and information on some of the Northeast’s most notable restaurants and markets.
